Hot chocolate ideas
Any sort of refreshment could be served after the Storytime Service, but we find that hot chocolate is best. Why? Because it's yummy, almost everyone loves it, and with a couple of additions, it can be customised into a super chocolatey mega-drink!

You could just use ordinary cocoa powder, and perhaps add squirty cream and marshmallows, but below are some more original ideas for hot chocolate made the proper way!

Red Velvet hot chocolate
You will need: 4 cups whole milk, 1 dash water, 3/4 cup chocolate chips, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 tsp. red food coloring, 1 cup double cream, 2 - 4 tbsn. cream cheese, room temperature

In a food processor, combine the double cream and sugar. Whip on medium speed with the whisk attachment for 2 - 3 minutes. Just before peaks form, add the cream cheese and whisk for another 2 minutes. Taste and add more cream cheese if it isn't smooth enough. Be careful not to over whip though, or else you'll have butter! In a medium saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat. Add a splash of water and the chocolate chips, constantly stirring gently. When almost melted, add the red food colouring and stir. When the chocolate chips are thoroughly melted, pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with the whipped cream.

Aztec hot chocolate
You will need: 6 cups milk, 10oz chopped dark chocolate, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, a pinch or two of cayenne pepper (optional) and marshmallows/cinnamon sticks for garnish

In a pan, combine the milk and chocolate. Melt the chocolate over low/medium heat, stirring constantly. Once melted and the mixture is warmed through stir in the cinnamon and cayenne (if using). Serve hot!

Nutella hot chocolate
You will need: nutella, 2 cups of milk, cinnamon, salt

Warm two cups milk in a small saucepan. Once milk begins to warm whisk in 2-3 heaped tbsp of Nutella. Heat milk mixture until very hot. Whisk in a little cinammon and a pinch of salt for an unusual flavour.
